What It Means To Be A Christian

If you were to decide to become a doctor, you would need to believe that you could actually be one; then you would need to realign your life to do those things that would allow you to learn how to do what a doctor does; and then you would need to receive your credentials which lets the whole world know that you are in fact...a doctor. It is no different in being a Christian.

To be a Christian is much like becoming a doctor. You need to first believe what Jesus has done for you and realize that he has done these things for you--you can be saved from hell, you can be a new creature, you can be a king in God's kingdom, you can receive eternal life, you can receive all the promises and hope that Jesus speaks of. Read the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the Bible and realize what God has done for you through His only begotten son, Jesus.

"And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." (Acts 16:31)

After you believe what the Bible says about Jesus and what he has done for you, then it is important to realign your life to God's way of doing things and learn to do what Jesus did...this is called repentance.

"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:5)

Our credentials for being a Christian does not come in believing and realigning our lives alone, but through the power of God that works through us through God's Holy Spirit. We must receive the Holy Spirit so that we are able to live after the example given to us by Jesus.

"He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?..." (Acts 19:2)

To be a Christian means that 1) we are convinced, believe, in what Jesus has done and who he is. 2) Because of our belief in Jesus, we align our lives to match our beliefs 3) We receive an actual part of God, the Holy Spirit, to live within us to give us power to be His witnesses.
